4 Things To Do Before Putting Your House On The Market
Posted on: 27 May 2016
Selling a house can take a lot of time and effort, and if you're not prepared, it can be stressful. Luckily, there are several things you can do prior to listing your home to make the selling process easier. If you plan to sell your home in the near future, use the following tips:
Order a Home Inspection
Getting a home inspection before putting your house on the market is one of the best things you can do to prevent unexpected expenses after you accept an offer on your home and the buyer has their inspection done. A complete home inspection will let you know what things in your home need to be repaired or replaced so you can take care of the issues.
Rent a Storage Unit
A home that is cluttered or full of stuff can be unappealing to potential buyers. As a seller, it can be very beneficial to rent a unit at a self storage facility. When you have a storage unit available, you can remove items that you don't need such as seasonal decorations, clothing, and large pieces of furniture from your home so it looks clean and organized. Since you don't know how long it will take to sell your home, it is a good idea to plan on renting the storage unit for a few months until you move into a new home.
Create a Clean Slate
If you want your home to appeal to as many potential buyers as possible, the house needs to be a clean slate that the next owner can put their own personal touch on. This can be achieved by making your home neutral and removing your personal style from it. If you have walls that are painted a very dark or bright color, spend a weekend putting up a few coats of white or beige paint. In addition, remove belongings that are personal, such as family photos, artwork made by your kids, or collectible items, so buyers can think about living in your home instead of picturing your family in the home.
Make the Exterior of Your Home Shine
Don't discount the importance of curb appeal when selling a home. If you want potential buyers to have a great first impression of your house, you need to make sure that the exterior of your house looks fantastic. Spend some time working on your landscaping, or hire a landscaping company to make sure that your front yard looks immaculate.
